Born 25/5/84 and educated at Great Yarmouth Grammar School. Son of J Baird of 'St Clair', 53 Church Rd, Gorleston, nr Great Yarmouth and brother of James William Baird. His father was a senior member of the firm of J Baird & Sons Ltd of Great Yarmouth and he was a Director and Secretary of the firm. He originally served with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Norfolk Regt and then with 6 (Cyclist) TF Battalion Norfolk Regt between 1906 and 12 April 1914 - leaving with the rank of Sgt (he was a signaller in both Morse and semaphore) at the end of his engagement. There is a note that he had successfully shot at Bisley. His commission application is dated 28/6/15. Address 53 Church Rd, Gorleston. Commissioned 29/7/15. Posted to 1/3/17. Attached MGC 31/7/17. Killed in action 28/7/17 with 229 Coy MGC one and a half miles south-west of Gaza - listed as Worcs Regt attd MGC. He was originally buried in Sampson's Ridge Military Cemetery No 4, Egypt and in 1919 he remains were reburied in Gaza Military Cemetery, Palestine. He left estate valued £2154 18s 6d.
