Description (What the record is about)
-
Survey volume KK covers various preferments, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation. ; This volume contains surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Pickering & Smith and Messrs. Cluttons. The preferments in this volume include the following: the Ashbury Sinecure Rectory Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 13 September 1835 by vacancy; the Bracklesham Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 17 October 1843 by vacancy; the Brownswood Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 28 November 1840 by vacancy; the Islington Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in October 1840 by vacancy; the Langford Ecclesiastical Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 9 September 1846; the Norwell Overhall Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in December 1837 by vacancy; the Norwell Pallishall Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 28 May 1837 by vacancy; the Stoke Newington Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 3 December 1843; and the Waltham Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 6 December 1835 by vacancy. ; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as the survey reports gave a comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent, condition and value of the preferments being transferred.; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from the Ecclesiastical Corporations, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports.; The volume also has annotations often regarding the disposal of property since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporate later dates.
