Lt Lee enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers in June 1915 and was promoted to sergeant the following November. After transferring to the Machine Gun Corps, he was posted to the Western Front in March 1916. After receiving his commission, he returned to the Western Front in October 1917 where he was killed in action during the German offensive on 9 April 1918. Lt Lee is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
