Description

'Abstract of Title to the White Lion Inn, Henley Street, Stratford upon Avon, belonging to Mr. John Payton and lately sold to Mr. Arkell, December 1823'.

In the hand of R.B. Wheler, and ending: 'The Swan and the Lion joined. The Swan was the easternmost [They were] united as one Inn under the general name of the White Lion before 1753 by old Mr. John Payton, who rebuilt nearly the whole premises' (p.55)
