Born 13 January 1908, died 24 July 1980. He was Luton Borough Librarian from 1938 to 1972 and President of the Association of Assistant Librarians from 1940 - 1943 becoming a member of the Library Association Council in 1946. He undertook various overseas projects for UNESCO and the British Council advising on library services, and was awarded the CBE in 1967.
