Description (What the record is about)
-
Stockbroking letters received by George White & Co. Some were deposited as bundles, others filed in volumes. All are now in folders. The main series (George White /C/4) runs from 1876 to 1904: most of these had been indexed, numbered, and filed in date order, although some overlapping occurs. A second series (George White /C/5) spans the years 1876-1884, 1888-1889 and 1897, and is made up of bundles which had apparently broken; there was no numbering or indexing, and any original order had been lost. They have now been re-sorted. In both series, most letters concern Stockbroking, although some refer to tramways, and a few are personal letters.
