Description (What the record is about)
-
These deeds were bundled with those of Nymans, Slaugham, and were transferred to WSRO in 1974, when that parish became part of West Sussex, and listed as Add Mss 27, 123-133
On 6 Nov 1900 John Garland Cope, whose firm of Cope and Company of 3 Great George Street, Westminster had acted for the De La Warr estate for more than thirty years, made a statutory declaration concerning Broadstone Warren, a part of the Buckhurst estate which had been assigned to Elizabeth countess De La Warr by a deed of partition on 9 Jul 1828. It recites the various mortgages affecting the estate and sums payable for land tax, tithe and rates (1)
On 16 Nov 1900 Gilbert George Reginald [Sackville-West], earl De La Warr, life tenant under a settlement of 2 Jan 1889, joined the trustees, the mortgagees and his widowed mother to convey land at Broadstone Warren, Ashdown Forest (27a, plan) to the right rev George Carnac Fisher, suffragan bishop of Ipswich, DD, for £2,000 (2)
On the same day the several mortgagees of the estate and Douglas William Freshfield of Kidbrooke Park, East Grinstead, to whom neighbouring land had been sold on the same day, executed deeds acknowledging bishop Fisher's right to the production of several groups of deeds (3-12)
