These were built by the Hove School Board in 1877 and were opened in 1879. They consisted of a boys', girls' and infants' departments. On 1 April 1927 the departments were amalgamated to form the Ellen Street Mixed School. As part of the general school re-organisation, in September 1929 the infants' department became the East Hove Junior School for Girls, and the boys' department became the East Hove Junior School for Boys. On 3 September 1934 the two schools were again amalgamated to form the East Hove Junior Mixed School and in 1956 it became the Goldstone Junior School. The old site was closed in 1974 and the school moved to new buildings in Laburnum Avenue
