Administrative / biographical background

Mr Stephens was contacted in a talk given to Bury Photographic Society and has now lent his own family photographs together with those belonging to Miss Howarth who used to live with the Stephens family. Miss Howarth had already lent photographs for copy via the Manchester Show in 1979, see deposits 548 and 777. The present deposit contains more of her photographs.

There were three Howarth sisters who were all keen amateur photographers. Their father went to Ivy Cottage in the 1850's when he married. He was a very keen gardener and won prizes for his gardening
