Folio 185. Letter from Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board. He requests sanction to the proposal of the guardians to award a gratuity of £1 to Isaac Gould, Carpenter and an inmate of the workhouse in consideration of work done by him whilst in the workhouse. He estimates that that the work he has done has a value of about £40.
Annotated: 'Mr Lockwood. Say that the Board are not aware of any legal authority for the payment of the proposed gratuity', 16 April 1885.
