Description (What the record is about)
-
He received Hill's of the 3rd with the £900 bill on Mr. Powys, which sum he promises to pay at midsummer. Powys insists on a premium in which matter Chambre will deal with as well as he can.
He will proceed as cautiously as he can with Mr. Sherrard. He is to pay him £1,400 which, with his former debt of £200 is to be included in this mortgage of £1,600.
He will give Hill credit for this £900 in his nieces' accounts as paid towards Hill's note of £1,901. 0. 7.
They have had such continued rain that work on the pool at Hawkestone is very much retarded, and the weather still unsettled.
He has ordered holes to be made and filled with soil for the first to be planted in - they are 7 ft. high, cost 12d. each, are of the Scotch kind, but the spruce firs will cost 18d. each. Chambre is to take what Hill chooses, but he thinks the Scotch will do as well as the other.
He has ordered them to be planted 4 yards apart. When he has settled with Mr. Sherrard he will, in Hill's nieces' account, take credit for £1,600 now lent him and make himself debtor for the old debt and interest.
Postscript. He thinks the beginning of September will be a proper time for the planting of the first.
Directed for The Hon. Mr. Hill.
