40 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 32½ inch cylinder, 6 foot stroke, parallel motion, [cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod].

For William Wallis, timber and slate merchant. Ashted Saw Mills, Dartmouth Street, Birmingham. The engine was originally made in 1827 and appropriated for Sims Tildasley & Adams of the Aston Junction Forge, Birmingham in 1829, but they did not erect it. John Badams of St. Helens attempted to buy it from them circa Aug.1830, but he was declared bankrupt before the sale was agreed. Francis W. Russell of London also enquired about the engine for a corn mill in Jan. 1833. The engine was finally sold to William Wallis in 1833 and erected in 1834.
