Administrative / biographical background

Bahadar Singh was born in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on 15/8/1914. He died in c.1961. His wife, Lajvanti Kaur, was born in Glotia, Pakistan in 1924. Children: Rani Kaur was born in India in 1944 (she is now married with grown-up children); Santosh Kaur was born in India in 1947 (also married with children); Manjit Singh was born in Manchester in 1954 (married); Jeet Kaur was born in Manchester in 1955 (married and resides in Scotland); Gurpal Singh (married) born in Manchester in 1958; Gurdial Singh was born in Manchester in 1959 (civil servant). Mr Bahadar was the father of the three depositors. He came to England in 1934 to work as a pedlar. He visited India several times after this and finally settled in Manchester in c.1947. He lived in Hulme, Chorlton-upon-Medlock and Victoria Park. Later he became a clothing manufacturer.
