The Local Board of Health came into being in 1850, superseding the Improvement Commissioners and Waterworks Commissioners. The Board consisted of the members of the Corporation but separate records were kept for this new function. In 1872 the Urban Sanitary Authority replaced the Board of Health and in 1894 the powers of the body were assumed by the Corporation
