Haymon Papers

Files of various legal documents belonging to Mark Haymon and relating to C K Ogden and his work, including papers about the Orthological Institute and the Basic English Foundation, c1930-c1965; correspondence regarding various publications, letters to, from and concerning C K Ogden, and general correspondence, 1910-c1955; material post-dating C K Ogden's death, including press cuttings about C K Ogden's death, papers about the British Council, photographs, papers on the Japanese language, copies of C K Odgen's 'Basic Words', and other papers and journals, 1957-1992.

For Charles Kay Ogden, University College London Special Collections also holds papers of Ogden, c1940-c1950, including correspondence with William Jackson Knight (Ref: MS ADD 381); a correspondence file of Ogden (Ref: MS ADD 413); books and manuscripts from Ogden's library dating from the 14th to the 20th century and reflecting his interests in language systems (Ref: MS OGDEN); papers relating to the transfer of Ogden's library to University College London, 1953 (Ref: MS ADD 357). The UCL Institute of Education archive holds the records of the Orthological Institute.

Open. The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Mark Haymon was C K Ogden's solicitor and also his close friend and collaborator. He was a member of the Orthological Institute and for many years was a trustee of the Basic English Foundation.
