Description

Phalguna (February-March). A prince and ladies play Holi on a terrace. Jaipur, c.1850. Mounted in an album (formerly Album 70); presented 21 April 1915. Inscribed on yellow panel above miniature with five lines of text in nagari characters; on reverse a description based on the nagari text:' The Month of Mah.' [sic]' from the Baramassee. This is the spring season - the Kokilla is singing - the Rose budding and the face of the earth has a pleasing appearance. Let no Lover leave these sports to journey - A woman has a syringe and another a Duff.'. Gouache with gold, blue and pink or red borders. 155 by 92 mm; page 245 by 183 mm.
