Administrative / biographical background

A Partnership made between Arthur Gladstone and Arthur John Dorman in 1907 for the purpose of mining and disposing of ironstone and iron ore at Grosmont and Eskdaleside. The company's registered offices were located in Middlesbrough.

In 1912 the Partnership was taken over by Dorman Long and Co. Ltd before being offered to Bell Brothers in 1913 with Maurice Bell taking Arthur J. Dorman's role.On the 14th February 1916 Arthur Gladstone died with Ann Gladstone becoming the executor and trustee of his will. When Ann dies in 1919, Frederick Charles Gladstone then takes over the interest in the partnership.

The Grosmont Ironstone Company was dissolved on the 23rd December 1926 after it had been considered that, following the preliminary work, working of Ironstone was not profitable, mining operations having never commenced.
