Description (What the record is about)
-
Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, leaflets, plans, copies of published material, accounts, reports, project proposals and funding requests relating to Koco Ltd., Coventry. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: Koco Ltd. is a company that was formed in 1982 to develop and administer the ex-Renold Chain offices at Spon End, Coventry. The company aims to create facilities that can be used to, 1) develop answers to the jobs crisis in Coventry, whilst at the same time creating new work structures through co-operatives and small producers, 2) assist individuals/groups to deal with social and employment problems themselves, and 3) combine the above work to develop initiatives and to take action in relation to the City's problems. Nature of support: In 1982 initial project support began with £14,000 guarantee being allocated by the Fund to help establish a voluntary organisations holding company. Later that year a further £6,000 grant was made to the new company, called the Arches Company, prior to changing its name again to Koco Ltd. In 1982 the Trust made a grant of £5,000 towards Koco Ltd. refurbishment costs to be paid through the Coventry Voluntary Service Council (CVSC) - this grant was subsequently rescinded. In 1983 a grant of £850 was made towards publicity for Koco Ltd., also paid by the Trust through CVSC. That same year the Fund agreed to underwrite any shortfall in rent for two years with the possibility of converting this underwriting to £10,000 for the purchase of premises. In 1984 a single grant of £3,000 was paid by the Fund to convert un-let space to offices. Minutes: B&GSCT 5625, B&GSCT 5697, B&GSCT 5756, BCF 2183, BCF 2214, BCF 2273, BCF 2361, BCF 2453. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered 'EA/7/57'.
