Letter from Robert Saul, a tailor and Worshipful Master, Merchants' Lodge, No. 241, of 38 Greenland Street, Liverpool to William White, Grand Secretary, Moderns' Grand Lodge requesting a certificate. Saul informs Grand Lodge that he has revived the fortunes of Merchants' Lodge but was formerly a member of St Thomas Lodge, No. 248, Whithorn, Grand Lodge of Scotland. He requests certificates for William Tate, initiated 23 November 1807, Benjamin Hughes and William Cortin [or Curtin], initiated 18 April 1808. Seeks information about working Royal Arch freemasonry as a Chapter was once attached to the Lodge and provides a list of these members stating names, age, occupation and residence.

Merchants' Lodge, No. 241 was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 522 on 25 March 1780. In 1780 the Lodge met at the Golden Lion, Dale Street, Liverpool but relocated to other taverns and hotels in Liverpool before relocating in 1858 to the Masonic Hall, 22 Hope Street, Liverpool.
