Description

Folio 289. Letter from Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board. He acknowledges receipt of their letter of 5 December 1879 and in reply states that the £120 mentioned in the form of queries for his appointment as clerk to the guardians, includes £10 as an allowance to the clerk for providing a suitable office for the Superintendent Registrar, this office having been held and being now held by the clerk of the Union.
Annotated: 'Mr Courtenay Boyle. Acknowledge, point out that the salary of the Clerk to the Guardians should not be inclusive of the amount to be paid as rent for the office to be occupied by him as Superintendent Registrar, and sanction appointment at a salary of £110 per annum, being the amount which it appears he is to receive for his personal services as clerk', 12 December 1879.
Annotated: 'I concur, add that the Board see no objection with the payment of one tenth for rent of the office', Courtenay Boyle, Local Government Inspector', 13 December 1879.
Annotated: ' Proceed in accordance with the minute of the 12th instant, and, as to the rent of the office call attention to the statute 6 & 7 Will IV c 86, s 9 (quote it)', 15 December 1879.
