Description (What the record is about)

This has been described in 5 HMC, p. 496, and contains:
(i) Order, dated 19 July 1476, of John [Arundel], bishop of Chichester, changing the day for offerings in honour of the B.V. Mary at the church of Rye from the Feast of the Nativity (8 September) to the Assumption (15 August).
(ii) Will, dated 20 February 1475, of John Baly of Rye, devising lands [described] to his wife Isabel for life, with remainder to his son Richard and his heirs, in default of which to the parish church.
(iii) Two lines of salutation from Richard Beauchamp, Earl Warwick of and Albemarle to Thomas, bishop of Worcester.
(iv) Decree of the mayor, jurats and commonalty of Rye, dated 29 April 1483, that the houses of the lord and the vicar be free as other houses of freemen, especially as to arrests and other matters.
(v) The service of Rye with the Cinque Ports at the coronation of Richard III, with a list of places where canopies have afterwards been deposited, Henry V to Mary, 1413-1553. It is this list which gives the probable date of compilation of this folio, for the main hand continues to Henry VII, the subsequent monarchs being entered in a variety of different hands.
