Single-acting engine, with 45 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, chain connection, unequal beam.
General view of the engine, inside view of the engine and boiler seen from the lever wall, outside front view, ground plan of the engine and boiler, plan "of one pair of stairs" [i.e. 1st floor]; front view and section of the engine house; condenser, boiler steam pipe, valve; balance beam - reverse plan and side view; front inside view of boiler and engine, with no dimensions; incomplete draft plan marked "Gregory Nr. 2 [?]" on the back; incomplete general view of the engine; sheet of queries and sketch of boiler from Francis Thompson, marked "Received 20 Sep. 1779"; memorandum "Gregory New Engine Jan. 1786" - re planned alterations to the engine [?].
Also the following items re alteration of the atmospheric engine: sketch elevation and plan of the engine house of the atmospheric engine from Francis Thompson; letter from Francis Thompson dated Ashover, 8 Dec. -; plans and section of the cylinder, stuffing box and gland etc., Apr. 1792 - original and reverse copies. The cylinder drawings bear letter codes.

For Gregory Lead Mine, Ashover, Derbyshire. The principal proprietors were Sir Joseph Banks of Soho Square, Westminster, and William Milnes and Samuel Kirk, both of Ashover.
