Description

Microfilm copies of the South Yorkshire census enumerators' books for the census of 1871. The census recorded all persons who spent the night of 2 April 1871 in each household. Information is given under the following headings:- place; street etc; houses inhabited/uninhabited; name and surname; relationship to head of family; married/single; age; male/female; occupation; where born; whether deaf and dumb/blind/imbecile or idiot/lunatic.

The first number given in each entry is the Public Record Office reference number (eg.RG.10/4641)

Townships followed by ff.... are now in South Yorkshire

S.R.D. = Superintendent Registrar's District

E.D. = Ecclesiastical District

Immediate source of acquisition
