Letter (holograph) in which Major-General Sir George Pollock expresses his gratitude for Shakespear's services "throughout the past year".
Shakespear was appointed military secretary to Pollock on 3 January, 1842. The letter is printed in "Memorandum of the Services of Brigadier-Gen Sir R Shakespear" (RSAA/SC/S/RS/5, pp. 11-12).
