Description

correspondence and papers of William Mackinnon, dated 1855-1893, relating to miscellaneous commercial matters and business concerns. Includes correspondence with trading partners, accountants, financial and legal advisers, and concerns the investment of his funds in shares and bonds, American railway securities and property in Australia and Florida. Correspondence includes that with Macleod Wylie (1865-1868, 1879-1881), a long-term friend and private consultant to Mackinnon in the City of Glasgow Bank legal case. Correspondence arranged alphabetically by correspondent.

Papers include miscellaneous company reports, including companies involved with mass communications, insurance, mining, railroads and finance; papers and letters relating to the Eucla Sheep Station in Australia, American railroads, the Scottish Carolina Timber Company and the Florida Land & Colonization Company amongst others.
