This file mainly contains letters and instructions sent from the Political Residency in the Persian Gulf to the Residency Agent on the Trucial Coast at Sharjah in the years 1883-1914, 1921, 1924-1927 and 1930, as well as a ledger book of drafts of letters sent from the Residency Agent to the Political Residency in the years 1907 and 1908. There are also copies and originals of letters and other documents sent form Trucial Coast shaikhs and other notables, including merchants and British protected subjects. The contents of the correspondence mainly concern commercial and consular matters, including British relations with the Trucial Coast ruling families, the status of British Indian subjects (banyans), claims and petitions, Persian Gulf islands, slavery cases, intelligence and statistics gathering, pearl diving issues, preserving the maritime peace and various administrative issues concerning the Residency Agent.
