Description (What the record is about)

Collection of correspondence of the Premier Grand Lodge 'Moderns', Antients Grand Lodge 'Atholl', and United Grand Lodge of England. The premier or Moderns' Grand Lodge was formed in 1717 and surviving minutes and records of its members date from 1723 onwards. In 1751 a rival Grand Lodge was formed, known as the Atholl or Antients' Grand Lodge, and these two Grand Lodges existed as separate organisations until they were united in 1813 to become known as the United Grand Lodge of England.
