Other Data: War Diary 20 Coy 10/1/1917: a team of No 3 section occupying a deep dug-out to theleft of WASSON road sustained six casualties. Both entrances of the dug-out faced the enemy and about 6pm, a shell burst on the third stair of one entrance, completely blocking it. The sentry was immediately killed whilst five other men were killed by the fumes from the shell (cordite). The Sergt in charge of the team crawled to the other entrance and was recused and the remaining man of the team also reached the fresh air in time. Great gallantry was displayed by 18253 Sgt Jones, 36764 Pte Watkins, 35473 Pte Slatter and 28763 Pte Ro…….., who under the direction of 2/Lt E Jungius, rescued the Sgt and attempted the rescue of the other men, the shellfire in the vicinity being very heavy.;
