Description

Copy of the will of Jeremiah Brown of Bishop Castle, gent.

His wearing apparell, including boots, spurs, wigs, to be divided between Sarah Lushcott and her children. His colts, the one a mare, the other a horse to the eldest son of Sarah Lushcott who shall survive him 5 years, to be kept by the executor.

Executors to deliver to the said Sarah, immediately after his death, all her apparell & bed in the chamber facing the stairs with the bedsteads, curtains feather bedm three pair of blankets, one coverlid, four air sheets after the six pair of the best are put by, the black chest of drawers, six pewter dishes, 12 pewter plates, two brass pots, 2 or 3 "sause" pans, two pair brass fire shovels & tongs and one iron pair, three tables of oak elm which she shall choose, 6 chairs, a warming pan, a frying pan, a stew pan, a gridiron a brass fender and an iron fender, a cullender, a chaffing dish, a dripping pan, and other goods which she, and they shall think proper.

All his silver plate, household goods, strong beer in the cellar, watch gun, pistols, swords and books to Richard, a natural son of Sarah aged about 11, to be given him when he reaches 23 years or marriage. If he dies before this and without issue then to Thomas William Henry, another natural son of Sarah aged 5 years on same terms, then to George Edward Brown another natural son of Sarah aged 2 years, under same terms, then to be divided between Mary Eliza and Ann 2 natural daughters of Sarah.

His debts and funeral expenses to be paid from the residue of his personal estate, or if deficient, from proceeds of sale or mortgage of his real estate.

All his real estate in the parishes & townships of Bishops Castel, Clunton, Clunbury, Beguildy Churchstock & Manavon in Salop, Montgom. and Rodnor, except those already settled and conveyed, to Thomas Brown of Mellington, esq. and Thomas Duppa of Cheny Longville, Wistanstow, gents, and to Robert Jones of Berriew, Montgom., gent.

All his ready money, securities, £100 due to him on the death of Revd. Mr. Clive charged on the real estate of his late sister Clive in Wigmore & all other personal estate to Thomas Brown, Thomas Duppa and Robert Jones in trust as follows:-

To raise out of the personal estate & rents & profits of real estate, or, if this be deficient by sale or mortgage of real estate, £40 to Sarah Lushcott, the expenses they may have incurred, and 2 guineas to each of them for their care, and, in the same way, provided for the care of Sarah & the maintenance and education of the children and setting them out to trades - ie. the sons aforesaid & the daughters Mary Eliza aged 8 and Ann aged 6, and to keep them in good order the dwelling house where he now lives in Bishops Castle until Sarah's eldest son shall be 23., or, if the sons die, until the daughters shall be 20 or married Then the real & personal estate remaining, to be valued and divided into three parts, one amongst all the younger children, the other two parts to Richard - if he die then to Thomas William Henry, and so on Remainder to Michael, Mary,Hudeth, Thomas his nephews and neices in equal shares.

Copy attested, 30 June 1760, Fras. Dorsett, Peter Roberts.
