This mill was established in 1775 and was acquired by John Jackson (on the evidence of land tax returns) in 1826 or early 1827, the previous owner being Richard Curtis. The surviving records commence shortly after this period and the early years of the Jackson family business are well documented. Attention is drawn to the paper samples books which illustrate the diversity of output of wrapping and commercial papers produced by the mill at the peak of its activity. It is understood that production at Oakenclough ceased during 1971.
