Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to theSecretary of State for India, No. 128 of 1870, dated 15 July 1870, containingenclosures dated 15 May-3 July 1870. The enclosures consist of copies ofcorrespondence relating to events in Muscat and Oman, particularly in referenceto the rule of Syud Azan bin Ghias [Sayyid 'Azzān binQays Āl Bū Sa'īd] as Sultan of Muscat, including:. Syed Azan's consolidation of his rule over the whole of Oman, including a siege of the Fort of Azum [Al Hazm]; A potential threat to Syud Azan's rule from Syud Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa'īd Āl Bū Sa'īd], and British observations of Toorkee's movements; Potential support for either Azan or Toorkee from the Sheikhs of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], Amalgavine [Umm al-Qaywayn], Debai [Dubai] and Shargah [Sharjah]; The primary correspondents are: the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Political Agent, Muscat; the Native Agent, Shargah; the Government of Bombay; and the Government of India.
