Description

About 470 deeds were catalogued by Sussex Archaeological Society upon receipt from Wallace Hills. The items were later divided between East and West Sussex Record Offices, according to the geographical area mentioned in each item, but maintaining their original catalogue reference number. This catalogue, therefore, contains only the East Sussex items, and the reference numbers do not form a continuous sequence. The reference numbers in this catalogue are: SAS-WH/1, 3-7, 11-15, 19-25, 28-32, 39, 43-48, 148-155, 157-162, 165-172, 175-176, 179-221, 236-263, 304-308, 310-320, 322-341, 347-348, 357-368, 372-376, 379, 381, 383-462, 469-470, 475

Immediate source of acquisition

Presented to Sussex Archaeological Society in 1932 by Ivan D Margary, and later transferred to East Sussex Record Office, from which about 200 items were subsequently transferred to West Sussex Record Office. Acc3713, at the end of the catalogue, is a later accession.
