Description (What the record is about)
-
The bulk of these letters were written by Tufton Beamish to his parents, though a few are to him from his father, and rather more are to or from his brother John (killed in the advance on Mandalay in 1945). References also occur to his sisters 'Vi' and 'Gilly', and to his aunt Lady Hamilton (of Cransford Hall, Saxmundham, Suffolk: née Eleanora Christadora Simon). The letters are affectionate and personal, but with political and social comment; they can be quite critical of British (or Egyptian, or Italian) incompetence. They are of particular interest for TB's wartime experiences, though subject to censorship restrictions
