Description

Although the deeds consist in the main of isolated deeds for numerous properties in various parishes, they do seem to be connected and the majority appear to relate to the families of Hales of Howletts in Bekesbourne and Engeham of Goodnestone.

These records were transferred to the East Kent Archives Centre, Whitfield from the Centre for Kentish Studies, Maidstone in January 2000

Administrative / biographical background

These documents originally belonged to the late Mr. Philip Pleydell-Bouverie of Brymore, near Bridgwater; they formed part of a large collection which had been dispersed; some going to the British Museum, some being sold, some destroyed and the residue going to Bridgwater Corporation. These documents were the Kentish portion of this residue.
