Title
Scrapbooks, largely compiled by the Revd. E. Vernon
Date
16th - 19th century
Description

Purchased at auction sale at Trumwyn House, Cannock, by direction of Mrs. J. Whitehouse. Two volumes of "collections" relating to Staffordshire and the Duchy of Lancaster largely compiled by Revd. Ed. Vernon, Rector of St. George's, Bloomsbury, 1731 d. 1761. The volumes are mainly in the form of "scrapbooks" and contain notes in handwriting of different dates, extracts from official documents, small parchment deeds, printed papers and illustrations.

Arrangement

The subject matter is mainly topographical concerning places in Staffordshire and some attempt has been made to arrange these in alphabetical order; interspersed with this is a variety of other material, some concerning Staffordshire worthies or historical or antiquarian data. The pages have been numbered, probably by Vernon himself, and these numbers are quoted in the following schedule.
