Coleman's tenement, with land called Collmans (26a.), Collmans Meadow (3a.), Blackmores Meadow (1½a.) and Shell Meadow (1½a.) and common in Bewly Down and Bickham Wood.
The premises, late parcel of a ten. of Jn. Parris of Chard, were leased to Humphrey Warren of Chardstock, Dorset, in 1631 and assigned to Jas. Warren in 1676. The freehold was conveyed by Aaron Smith late of Combe St. Nicholas, then of Knowstone, Devon, to Jn. Warry of Chard in 1667, and by Rd. and Wm. Warry of Chard to Robt. Smyth of Langham, Chard, in 1687. Jn. Woolmington of Membury, Devon, leased the premises to Mary and Wm. Gellit of Wambrook in 1715, and Wm. Smith of London to Wm. Standerwick of Whitestaunton in 1731.
Bndl. includes copy wills of Wm. Smith of Lyme Regis, merchant, 1677, and Robt. Smith of Wadeford, Combe St. Nicholas, 1687/91; quitclaim of all actions by Jas. Warren of Wambrook to Jn. Harris of Combe St. Nicholas, et al., 1692; letter of Geo. Strode to 'Mr Woollington', Wambrook, referring to money due to Strode by the death of his aunt Hannah, 1712; letter of N. Webb to do., ?1716; building and other accounts, receipts, etc., chiefly relating to Coleman's, but referring also to Woolmington, Bond and Strode families, and to land at Chillington and Langham, Chard.
