Inquisition Post-mortem Cuthbert Clyfton, esq : at Wygan before Thomas Gardener, escheator; on oaths of Robert Langton, John Adlington, esqs. John Assheton of Banferlonge, Thomas Chaydocke, Thomas Molynex, Peter Mershe, Roger Hyndeley, Myles Ince, Roberte Hyndley, James Gerrarde, Alexander Fourthe, Roger Pendilbury, John Sotheworth, Lawrence Worthington, Ellis Aynesworth, Gilbert Laighton, and Richard Haughton, gent.s C.C. held the manor of Westby with 56 messuages, 500 ac. land, 100 ac. meadow, 100 ac. pasture, 100 ac. moor and moss, 6 ac. wood and a windmill in Westby, Great Plumpton, Little Plumpton, Wray, Elleswicke, Warton, Grenehall, Esbrecke, and Kyrkeham; also 8 messuage, 4 cottages, 100 ac. land, 40 ac. pasture, 10 ac. meadow, 100 ac. turbary, moor, heath and furze and 4/- rent in Kyrkeham, Frekylton, Warton, Esbrecke, and Wray; also 6 messuages, 6 gardens, 6 orchards, 150 ac. land, 30 ac. meadow, 60 ac. pasture, 300 ac. moor and moss, and turbary, in Hackenson, Prysowe, Stalmyn, and Stanall. In his will he left property (specified) to William his younger brother, Henry his bastard son, William Southeworth his servant, James Thompson his servant. Properties held of the Queen as of her Duchy of Lancaster in socage by rent of 10/- value £16 and 20d. Properties in Frekylton held of the heirs of Richard who was Lord of Frekylton in socage and 4d. rent, value 7/8. Property in Elleswicke, held of Henry, Earl of Derby in socage, value 12/-. Properties in Greenall and Esbrecke held of Henry Butler, esq. in socage, value 31/8. Properties in Kyrkeham held of the Dean and Chapter of Christes Churche in Oxford, value 46/8. Properties in Hackensaw and Presaw held of Thomas Bothe, esq. decd. as of his manor of Hackensaw and Presaw by socage, value 53/-. Properties in Stalmyn and Stanall held of Henry Butler, esq. in socage and 1d. rent, value 46/-. C.C. died 12 Mar 1579/80, Thomas his son and heir aged 18 yrs. 11 mths, 18 days. Seals.
