Description (What the record is about)

Grantham, Madrid to Fritz [no. 24]
Extraordinary letter. Lameness improving. Fabre vows it is not gout etc... Humorous reference to elephants, Munro and his brother Sir Hector. Packing up for Aranjuez on Friday. Passed afternoon at the Ramels'. Coach looks good with renovated harness and smart Liveries.
Received letter from Nanny and his of 26th. Responses to it; cannot imagine him a whist player. Likes his account of the Ossory's, hopes there is no truth in reports about them. Is Mr Gibbon agreeable? La Cour must be a sad loss. Do not leave out any news however trivial. Does not like Lord H.C.L. for He remains of the Colonies. Fritz does the Retiro too much honour in coupling it with Kenington [sic] Gardens. Surprised Draper did not remember Shadwell was to be continued, doesn't wonder he frets at subject. Thanks for account of the picture of Charles 2nd of Spain.
Drawing plans for Aranjuez detailed. 14 April 1779
Has done all remaining to be done in Madrid. Visited Gazola, unwell in night. Dined with Corps, Prelates etc.. at Venice's. Did it with, as Bannister said of Fouquiere's whistling, without fatigue or grimace.
Various responses to Portuguese Match, thinks they will make little impact and "the lovely Heifer will be led an unwilling Sacrifice to the Sty". However, the situation is so tender they even had no laughing at it at Dinner.
Love to Nanny and the Parkers. Impatience for post day.etc.. Thursday evening [15 April 1779]
