Title
F. Chambre to Hill.
Date
Petton, 20th October, 1725
Description

He has had another conference with Mr. Griffith who will accept £1,500 and will settle £300 per annum, one half in jointure and whole upon the issue male of the marriage, with a power of raising £1,500 for younger children's portions if there should be a son and such younger children, but if there should be no son, then £1,500 for an only daughter, if 2 daughters £2,000 and if more daughters, then £2,500. But he is very unwilling to come into the £200 per annum for a jointure, because £1,500 does not deserve so much, and a large jointure can be a burden to the son especially when it is the wife's good luck to meet with a second husband.

His sister Nancy is thankful for Hill's care and is content to accept £150 per annum jointure if Hill thinks it fitting for her "And with submission to your better judgment I think hee treats like a fair chapman." Besides what he proposes to settle, he will have an estate in lands of £130 per annum which with this £1,500, his personal estate and the money he can raise for his woods, all of which he proposes to lay out in the purchase of lands, may make his estate £700 per annum, for all which the issue of the marriage stands a fair chance. He is well known to Chambre, having lived for many years with his brother and sister Adderton's family. Chambre will give Joseph instructions touching a nursery of limes, elms, "Abols" which he may now pick up.

Chambre does not intend to be in London before Hillary term. He did not keep Hill's notes out of any difficulty of trusting him, but as vouchers to his own accounts, and for like reason Hill should keep those mortgages until such accounts are settled. In the account between them touching Hill's niece Chambre has given Hill credit for those mortgages.

Directed for the Honble. Mr. Hill.
