The records were deposited on (permanent) loan from two different sources: the liquidators of the company, Thornton Baker, in 1981, and Mr D. W. Brown in 1980. Both these deposits have been amalgamated in this list. A separate list of Mr Brown's material is available: it comprises items now at M380 PAL/5/3 and M380 PAL/7.

Originally called the Waste Water Meter Co. (until 1889), the company owed its existence to the inventions of George Deacon, engineer to the Liverpool Water undertaking although it also dealt with other patent inventions.
