Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the way up to the line, a shell caused heavy casualties in his section and it was due to him that a very difficult relief was carried out without further loss. When a gas shell burst in the entrance to the dugout, blinding and prostrating his section, though almost blinded and in great pain, he got to company headquarters and made his report, thereby saving the rest of his section.;
