Administrative / biographical background

In the 1890s the society held open air meetings on a site in Alma Road. In 1906 a corrugated iron chapel was erected on that site. In 1927 The Avenue Church was opened. In 1966 the society amalgamated with the ex-primitive society in Winton (See NM1/S/16) and a new building in Alma Road was opened in 1970. This was built on the Avenue Road site.
