The Gloucester and Cheltenham Branch of the Provincial Typographical Association was formed in 1873, but the joint arrangement was unsatisfactory, and a separate branch for Gloucester was established in 1875. These minutes cover almost 100 years in the development of a craft union, and a period of rapid change both in the printing industry and the organisation of its employees. In the 1960s, all but one of the several craft unions became part of the National Graphical Association, and in 1970 Gloucester Typographical Society decided to become a part of a new Three Shires Branch of the National Graphical Association, including Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and a large part of Worcestershire
