Charlton has contracted with Popham for the purchase of the manor of Whitton.

By the particular, its value was said to be £153.14.0 in rents beside reversions; by the present rental it appears to be only £145.14.0 (£8 p.a. less). For the purchase, Charlton was to pay £3700. Popham gave a discharge for this sum, but because of the fall in rent there is £128 left in Charlton's hands

That if Popham before the end of the Michaelmas term make it appear that the rents truly amount to £153.14.0, then Charlton will pay him the £128; but if the present rent amounts to more than £145.14.0 but less than £153.14.0, Charlton or his executors, heirs and assigns, will pay Popham at the rate of 16 years purchase for so much as the present rent amounts to over and above £145.14.0
