Microfilm of papers including: ms transcript of his diary (December 1941 - December 1942 373pp) and of other ms accounts written about the time of his liberation in 1945 (16pp), giving excellent descriptions of the fall of Hong Kong (December 1941), its effect on the already poor morale of the Allied forces there, his experiences as a POW, following capture after serving there as a bandsman sergeant with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots, including periods spent in camps at Victoria Barracks and Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong (December 1941 - September 1942), and (amidst worse conditions) in Japan at Osaka, Stadium (November - July 1943), Kobe (July 1943 - July 1945), Kawasaki (June 1945) and Wakinohama (June - September 1945), and his terrible experiences being in the Japanese POW transports LISBON MARU at the time of its sinking (1 October 1942) and, after rescue, in the WASHINGTON MARU.

- <p>Alsey joined the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots as a bandsman in May 1933, serving overseas in India (Quetta and Lahore) and Hong Kong before the outbreak of the Second World War. He was taken prisoner after the fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day 1941.</p>
