Gallantry Notes: DSO Citation: 4/10/1919: Near Harlebeke on 17th October 1918 the bridgehead which had been established during the night was heavily counter attacked, the bridge being destroyed by artillery fire. He swam the river which was under a heavy machine gun and artillery barrage and so managed to reach his two sections which were heavily engaged. His personal example greatly assisted the repulse of the counter attack. During the operations extending from 29 September to 22 October he has displayed marked ability and coolness in handling his guns at critical periods.

MC:For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. It was mainly due to his coolness and excellent leadership that nine out of twelve guns were brought up to an advanced position under heavy hostile shelling and machine gun fire. He displayed sound judgement in disposing his guns in order to meet a counter attack, which, during the day seemed highly probable and his conduct throughtout set a splendid example to all who were near him.;
