Administrative / biographical background

The donor's father was Eric Luxton. Born in 1909, in Gorton, he was the youngest of the five children of Mark and Annie Luxton. Only he and his two sisters Elsie and Dora, survived infancy. He died in 1971, Dora is still alive, aged 76. Mark and Annie were born in 1873 and married in 1894. Mark worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. Because of the nature of his work, the family had to move several times and lived in various districts of Manchester. The donor's maternal great-grandfather was William or Thomas Brocklehurst, a millowner. Annie believed to have been born in Rotherham, was one of 8 children. As a result of a debt incurred by one of her brother-in-law which her father had guaranteed, the mill had to be sold. He did this preference to selling his workers houses. It was against his principles to see families homeless.
