The Barnstaple & North Devon Permanent Benefit Building Society was founded in 1850 with its head office at 17 Joy Street,Barnstaple,Devon. They changed their name on 8 August 1950 to The Barnstaple & North Devon Building Society. They transferred engagements to the Hastings & Thanet Building Society in December 1974
