Description (What the record is about)
-
Richd. How (Aspley) to 1. ?
1. Has seen the resolutions of the Exeter Committee for abolition of the Slave Trade requiring £3000 more to ensure success over the vested interests. As only £2700 was collected in the first zeal he doubts whether this sum can be raised. Suggests sending out more circulars, enlisting help of other religious sects, Wesley, the Congregationalists, Presbyterians, & the German & Portuguese Jews, & getting the European Abolition Society to work more effectively. Could not Eliz. Webb's letter with Anth. Wm. Bochur's' be procured from Pennsylvania?
2. J.Pitts. Thanks for books lent (named),
3. Jas. Phillips. Suggesting that Bishops and Roman Catholic hierarchy be encouraged to circularise their clergy about the slave trade. All
