The letters from the correspondents are originals and the College's replies are carbon copies which indicates that the correspondence originally belonged to the College. There is evidence in the content that Alexander Boswell's correspondence was donated along with the early records in this collection but that of David Russell was probably combined with the rest of the collection when he donated the photocopy of the journal in 1973. There is no information on the original order of the collection in the previous catalogue.
